Farm broadcasting is alive and well in Illinois. I have been on the Corn and Soybean Classic series program from the very beginning (1998) as the emcee, but emceeing this program is not my primary job. I am a Farm Broadcaster for University of Illinois Extension, and I provide programming content for nearly 1,000 radio and television stations around the nation. My assignment is to tell the story of Illinois agriculture. You can obtain those stories directly from the Illini Farm Report at http://ifr.illinois.edu.
I have a home radio station, too, working with the Urbana-Champaign campus based WILL AM-580. I host a daily half-hour ag program called the "Closing Market Report," which airs at 2:06 p.m. Central Time and can be heard in parts of four states. "Commodity Week" is my Saturday morning radio program on WILL, a half-hour analysis about what happened in the commodity markets for the week. Tune in to WILL AM- 580 to hear "Commodity Week" at 11:30 a.m. Central Time.
If you can't tune WILL AM-580 in on your radio, you can still hear my programs and those of the station's Director of Agricultural Programming Dave Dickey. The homepage for AM-580 Agriculture is will.illinois.edu/am/agriculture. Dave and I invite you to sign up for their weekend newsletter on that homepage.
