Scientific Name: Echinochloa crus-galli L.
Other Names: watergrass, panic grass, summergrass, billion dollargrass
Life Cycle: summer annual
General Description: A grass with clump-forming stems and no ligule.
Seedlings: First leaf is linear and parallel to the ground.
True Leaves and Stem: Leaves
are rolled in the bud and lack auricles and a ligule. No hairs
anywhere, but a prominent mid-vein is present. Sheaths are open and
smooth.
Roots: Fibrous roots
Flower and Fruit: Flowers are a greenish-purple panicle. Seed is shiny and oval, about 3-4 mm long with small ridges.
